“Most of the very visible tasks are things that we would expect computers to completely outclass humans at – precision, timing-based actions. Learning to choose these actions is of course an interesting challenge, but the way we perceive games like DOTA 2 means that we’re impressed at how fast the computer reacts with Skill X, instead of being impressed that it learned that Skill X was the correct response (because to a human, learning to use Skill X is easy, and the reaction speed is the thing that you have to practice)”
Depending on how you tweak the rules of the game and the bot’s hard-coded behaviors, it’ll always win. The challenge here is to minimize the restrictions put in place, while maximizing the learning. Read the official blog post too.
